Stacy Tarlow Photography Blog bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

i got interested in photography because.....
it's a burning passion for me. i have had a camera since forever but
i got my real film SLR camera when i was 17. i took a lot of classes,
but when i took my classes at International Center of Photography in
NYC, that was when the fire really started to burn. i continue to take
classes and workshops around the country and work with my mentors. i
will never stop learning my craft. you know you are passionate about
something when it's all you think about. it fills my every thought.
that is how i feel about photography.

describe your family

i've been married to Brad for 8 years. we have five-year-old
boy/girl twins. we have a crazy house that's full of life - in a lot of ways. no matter how crazy things can get, there is a lot of love in the house. i am blessed every day.

if i could photograph any person, dead or alive, it would be....
my grandfather, linwood seeley. he died when i was two. he was only
52. i never got a chance to know him, but i know how much my dad loved
and adored him. and to photograph the love between my dad and his dad
would have been priceless.

the best pizza on the planet is....
patsy's pizza in spanish harlem in NYC - 118th street & 1st avenue.

my favorite girl scout cookie is.....
is there one??? all right. if i must choose one, it would be thin mints.

my favorite TV show at the moment....
Real Housewives of NYC or Orange County. what a train wreck!! love it!

i love.....
being in maine at the lake, going for a run, the movies, the sweet
sound of our kids playing (when they're not fighting), the smell of my
mom's apple pie (and eating it!), cotton candy and my girlfriends.

i can't wait to learn more about you and your family and capture some of your favorite memories through photography.

sunsets

Monday, May 3, 2010

i belong to a private online group of mostly women photographers.  i say mostly because there are a few men but they’re usually quietly lurking in the background.  it’s hosted by wendy schulz – you get access to the forum by taking her amazing classes.  so in the forum , we tend to ask questions like, how did you get that picture to come out like that? or i need help with photoshop!! or how can i make a big batch of cosmos?  ya know, important things like that.  wha?  cosmos are important too!!!

i asked the ladies “what does a sunset mean to you?”.    here are there responses:

“They are relaxing and peaceful and some signify that I made it through the day, like seeing it just gives me a fresh burst of energy. But when they are brilliant and have the swirls of different colors and make the cool streaks across the sky- somewhere deep down (probably the kids part of me) feels special that God painted THAT picture just so that I would be thankful that I could see it.”

“To me the sunset signifies that life goes on. No matter what troubles I have encountered in my day, no matter how stressed I am or what is worrying me, the sun will set and rise again. It is such a release to know that the sun will go down and with it I can let go and start again.”

“Sunsets at the beach are my favorite when you get that big orange fireball sinking in th sky.. Sunsets In summer at home mean long walks after dinner, kids biking around the neighborhood screaming/ laughing and catching fireflys..sunsets in winter ( I’m talking like 4:30) mean hubby will
be home soon…”

“I love to see the sunset to know that it rises. Nothing stops the sunset and the sunrise. I love the colors, I love that it is a privlege to catch and watch a sunset before its too late. Most days are rushed and full of “stuff” but to actually see the sunset is relaxing and reassuring that it will rise the next morning.  Also, sunsets mean that bedtime is not far away!”

“Awe, joy, peace, gratitude. . . I always feel lucky when I happen to be outside during that golden time right before and during a sunset. I’m in awe of the beauty of this earth, joyful that I get to live in it, completely at peace in that moment, and thankful that I’m loved and have people to love. And I always want to share the sunset with them.”

they couldn’t have said it any better.  to me, a sunset means peace.  think about it – when you’re watching a sunset with others, it’s soooo quiet.  people are truly lost in their own private world.   and it means that no matter what life brings me throughout the day – good, bad or indifferent….the sun will set and it will rise to a new day with it a fresh clean slate. thank god for those fresh clean slates!!!

what does a sunset mean to you?

May 3, 2010 - 1:24 pm Lee-Ann - I think this piece of writing is amazing. I think your image is stunning. And I also think your right, a sunset is a time for pause, to reconnect with that very private part of you that other's don't see. Sunsets are like memories, they evoke feelings and emotions that are intangible to anyone else because they are so deeply personal. Thank you so much for sharing this Stacy!

May 3, 2010 - 9:41 pm Meg - Sunsets are truly personal as we are all coming up with the same principal points, yet they are as different as each of us are. Sunsets are also sunrises somewhere else at the same moment; as we are saying good night, others are saying good day. Stace, thanks for this opportunity to remind us to stop - and look - at the sun setting. Too, wind also leaves the moment alone while this miracle is going on. . . .

May 4, 2010 - 12:03 am Lisa Heuer Photography - Stacy! Super beautiful... and from a plane window? That is pure talent. what an awesome post and inspiring!

May 4, 2010 - 11:34 am Amy - Beautiful! And inspiring and peaceful. Thank you! You rock!

May 6, 2010 - 3:09 pm Lynn - A sunset for me is: A moment of peaceful, reflective solitude...an endless warm embrace that gives me pause.
